YOSHIKI Makes History: First Japanese Artist Awarded Prestigious Medal of Honor from Entertainment Community Fund

YOSHIKI Recognized for Decades of Philanthropy, Announces $100,000 Donation to Support Artists' Mental Health

YOSHIKI was honored with the Entertainment Community Fund's prestigious Medal of Honor at the Fund’s Annual Gala in New York on June 1, 2026, making him the first Japanese artist to receive the recognition in the award’s 116-year history.

The star-studded event was attended by America's top entertainers, including the cast of HBO’s The Gilded Age and Tony Award–Winning Producer Daryl Roth, who were also honored for their charitable works.

YOSHIKI was introduced by Katherine Oliver, Principal at Bloomberg Philanthropies. She said, "What sets YOSHIKI apart is what he does beyond the music. His philanthropic work reaches thousands of people each year, across a multitude of resources. In the wake of the California wildfires in early 2025, he was one of the first people to step up and support the wildfire relief work of the Entertainment Community Fund. He understood that when people in this industry lose everything, the wound is not just financial. It is also emotional, psychological, and deeply personal. By supporting the Fund, he made sure people in the industry had the care to address those needs, too." Before YOSHIKI came to the stage, Oliver announced the rock star's donation of $100,000 through his 501(c)(3) Yoshiki Foundation America, which will aid the Fund’s mental health programs and services.

In his acceptance speech, YOSHIKI said, "The Entertainment Community Fund exists to make sure no artist struggles alone. That mission is personal to me. Because I have learned something through all the loss, all the pain, all the years of trying to help others. Saving people also saves you. Art doesn't just entertain. It survives. It heals. It saves lives. It saved mine."

YOSHIKI performed a drum solo with musical accompaniment by Tchaikovsky, followed by an intimate piano rendition of his song "Endless Rain", giving a preview of his upcoming concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall on July 16 & 17 in Los Angeles.

Guests at the gala had the opportunity to be some of the first people in the U.S. to enjoy bottles of Y by Yoshiki x Champagne Pommery, the history-making collaboration between YOSHIKI and premium French Champagne house Pommery.

Inaugurated on May 9, 1910, when it was first presented to U.S. President William Howard Taft, the Medal of Honor represents the highest recognition bestowed by the Entertainment Community Fund upon individuals who enrich the global arts community. Past recipients include American entertainment icons such as Denzel Washington, Robert Redford, Uma Thurman, Audrey Hepburn, Robert De Niro, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The Medal of Honor recognition honors YOSHIKI’s decades of philanthropy. Through Yoshiki Foundation America, he has provided critical support to global causes including disaster relief, mental health awareness, and emergency aid across four continents. This includes a major $500,000 donation in 2025 to support victims of the Los Angeles wildfires, with funds directed to the Entertainment Community Fund, MusiCares, and the American Red Cross.

The honor comes as YOSHIKI prepares for his highly anticipated return to Los Angeles with "YOSHIKI CLASSICAL 2026," a two-night engagement at Walt Disney Concert Hall on July 16 (“Scarlet Night”) and July 17 (“Violet Night”). Each performance will showcase distinct programs, highlighting YOSHIKI’s signature blend of classical composition and contemporary expression.
