“EVENING / BREAKFAST with YOSHIKI 2025 in TOKYO JAPAN – KURENAI,” held at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo from Friday, August 22 to Sunday, August 31, came to a spectacular close after 10 performances over 6 days. The highly anticipated shows followed a long rehabilitation period after YOSHIKI’s third major neck surgery in October of the previous year. Tickets for the “VVIP Diamond Package” — the highest-priced in the event’s history at ¥1 million — sold out on the first day. With this series, YOSHIKI has now performed a total of 98 dinner shows, marking another milestone in his illustrious career.
On the second day, August 23, YOSHIKI suffered an injury to his right hand during the curtain call when a fan accidentally collided with him. Despite the injury, he continued on stage through all 10 shows. His return to the drums — his first solo since surgery — was met with thunderous applause as he played with such intensity that he staggered midway through. Adding to the emotional impact of the event, he debuted a new composition titled “The Seine,” completed that same morning, enveloping the venue in a majestic and moving atmosphere.
For the first time, a fashion show for YOSHIKI’s high-fashion brand, MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS, was featured as part of the program, debuting new designs alongside YOSHIKIMONO. Guests were also treated to an exclusive preview of a new vintage wine from Y by YOSHIKI, served prior to its official release. In addition, YOSHIKI’s original rose variety, Kurenai, was unveiled at the event. Selected from tens of thousands of candidates over a two-year period, the rose is scheduled to be released to the public this fall.
The highlight of the performance was the appearance of the virtual human AI YOSHIKI on the venue’s monitors. In a groundbreaking fusion of reality and digital, AI YOSHIKI answered questions from the audience and engaged in real-time conversation with YOSHIKI himself. From deep reflections on life and art to lighthearted banter, his presence sparked surprise, laughter, and thunderous applause. Building on his work in music, fashion, and wine, YOSHIKI expanded the boundaries of entertainment by embracing AI as a next-generation form of artistic expression.
Guest performers included singer Beverly, JAY from XY, and Ladies X guitarist YUI, who joined YOSHIKI in special arrangements of X JAPAN’s signature songs. The YOSHIKI-produced girl group Bi-ray also took the stage, performing their debut song “Butterfly” along with their new track “Your Jealousy” for the first time, igniting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. On the final day, Sunday the 31st, X JAPAN guitarist PATA made a surprise appearance, joining YOSHIKI for a one-night-only performance of “Rusty Nail.” The moment drew thunderous applause and hinted at the deep bond between the longtime bandmates.
This year’s event welcomed a host of celebrities and VIPs. Notable guests included internationally acclaimed actor Lee Byung-hun, legendary fashion designer Junko Koshino, renowned photographer Leslie Kee, DA PUMP leader ISSA, model and media personality Anmika, the popular comedy duo Pekopa, and Hello Kitty designer Yuko Yamaguchi. A particularly moving moment occurred when world junior figure skating champion Mao Shimada attended—YOSHIKI gave an impromptu performance of “Miracle,” the song she uses in her routine, creating a heartfelt connection that deeply moved the audience.
Reflecting on the experience, YOSHIKI shared: “It’s been a while since I’ve performed a full concert, so honestly, I was worried whether I could do it. But this stage was made possible thanks to the support of so many people. After my third neck surgery last year, I thought I’d never be able to play the drums again… but when the moment came, my hands just moved on their own. I’m truly grateful to everyone who always supports me.”
YOSHIKI is scheduled to perform globally in the coming months. One of the most anticipated appearances will take place this November in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, where he will become the first Japanese artist to perform at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra. The concert is especially significant as it coincides with YOSHIKI’s birthday, making it a highly anticipated and emotionally meaningful event.
