YOSHIKI surprised fans at Anime Expo by joining world-renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano on stage July 2 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
YOSHIKI and Amano revealed the artwork for YOSHIKI's new classical single "REQUIEM". The song, composed by YOSHIKI after the death of his mother, is the centerpiece of the upcoming "Yoshiki Classical World Tour with Orchestra 2023 'REQUIEM'".
The two icons of Japanese entertainment had been working on the collaboration in secret, and displayed the artwork for the first time at Anime Expo, the world's largest anime and Japanese culture event outside of Japan.
Amano is known to anime and video game fans around the world for his illustration and designs for the Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D, Gatchaman, and Casshern, among numerous others.
YOSHIKI was invited as a Guest of Honor at this year's Anime Expo. He revealed details about his upcoming projects and answered questions from fans who had traveled from across the U.S. and all over the world to see YOSHIKI speak live.
YOSHIKI’s highly-anticipated 2023 classical world tour includes shows at Tokyo Garden Theater (Tokyo), Royal Albert Hall (London),Dolby Theater (L.A.), and Carnegie Hall (New York).
This tour will be the first time a Japanese artist has headlined all these historic venues.
YOSHIKI composed the Attack on Titan theme song"Red Swan", which debuted at #1 on iTunes Rock Charts in 10 countries and reached #6 in the U.S and #8 in the UK. "Red Swan" is the first Japanese anime song in history to rank this high on iTunes Rock charts.
YOSHIKI has also composed music for other anime series and films, including Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, Buddha: The GreatDeparture, X, X - X2 Double X, as well as the official "Hello KittyTheme Song".
